Piggybacking on the great work done by USFS, Trinity County Resource Conservation District, and the Watershed Research and Training Center to repair and to replace the East Weaver Creek bridges, Trinity Trail Alliance is launching a new Adopt a Bridge Volunteer Program. Starting this 2020/2021 winter season, you can sign up as an Adopt a Bridge volunteer to help maintain one or more of the bridges on the Weaver Basin Trail System (WBTS) in the Weaverville Community Forest.
We'd like you (or you, your family, and your friends) to regularly visit the bridge and help keep it free of debris. This effort will help extend the life of the bridges and help to keep them safe for all trail users. Maintenance will include removing debris and sediment off of the bridge deck and from the gaps between the boards. It could also include occasional snow removal during the winter months. Volunteers can also report any larger repair needs, such as limb or tree removal. Volunteers may want to visit the bridges monthly, or even weekly during fall and winter seasons.
Bridge locations on the northwest side of the WBTS, crossing East Weaver Creek, include the Rainbow-Hansen Bridge, the East Weaver Campground Bridge, and the Pole Bridge. These bridges have easy access and are a very short hike from the East Weaver Creek Road.
On the southwest side of the WBTS, in the West Weaver Creek vicinity, there are multiple bridges that volunteers will get to go on a bit of a hike to reach. The Upper West Weaver Creek Trail has six small bridges which are grouped together for a volunteer to adopt. The West Weaver Creek Trail has 7 even smaller bridges which are also grouped together for a volunteer to adopt.

The Trinity Trail Alliance would like to thank all of our volunteers who donate their time and energy helping to keep the Weaver Basin Trails in excellent shape. TTA’s volunteer efforts are in cooperation with Weaverville Community Forest land management agencies including the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management and other community organizations.
